Am I really going to stick to a weight loss plan this time?

Image
t's that time when I start thinking about weight loss again. The plan I had at the start of the year has gone out of the window yet again. It's all the same excuses. But falling off the wagon isn't the worst thing that I can do. The worst thing is not even sticking to blogging about it. We have a tendency with blogs and social media to only show the good side. There's this need to be the perfect versions of ourselves and that means avoiding the bad. Yet, the bad times are when we need most of the support. This is the point when we need to lean on each other. It's just so hard to be honest about failures. We don't want to admit when we've not stuck to the plans we've laid out. Yet one of the reasons for tracking is to see where it all went wrong. This is a chance to look at how moods affect eating choices and what happened to lead to a blowout. It's also a chance to see how we get back on track with things. So, with that in mind, I'm maki...

Failing to Stick with Goals and Getting Back on Track

Image
I started my June challenge of tracking every day so well. I thought I'd be able to keep up with it and then I stopped tracking for a couple of days. I just couldn't get back into tracking after that. Did you know it takes 6 weeks to set a new habit? I've gone so long without tracking that I've fallen out of the habit and I'm finding it hard to get back into the habit of tracking. I'm finding it hard to stick to goals that I want to achieve. This is completely normal. I refuse to beat myself up for it. After all, my wants and needs over the last two months have changed considerably. I'm actually not following the Weight Watchers diet at all right now. But that doesn't mean I'm eating whatever I want. I'm actually still losing weight, but without Weight Watchers to do it. I'm sticking to smaller portions and a healthy diet. I've cut back on sugar and treats without really thinking about it. When I do snack, I opt for a handful of...

June Weight Loss Challenge Week 2 Update: Getting Back on Track

Image
I didn't quite make it through the full week of tracking on Weight Watchers this week. I had a 48 hour period where nothing at all was tracked. I wanted to go back later and fill it all in, but once weigh-in came around on Friday I just didn't have the motivation to do it. On this occasion I was lucky. The lack of tracking didn't mean a gain. I lost 0.6lbs, so that's about normal for me. Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook, SmartPointsTM Edition: Over 500 Delicious Recipes for the Healthy Cook's Kitchen Maybe part of the benefit is the heat. I'm not eating anywhere near as much as I would in the winter. I don't want food that is going to melt all over me and I need food that is full of water. I've found myself drinking way more than the 8 glasses that I designate for myself on most days (yesterday wasn't quite 8). When it comes to skipping Weight Watchers tracking, it's easy to fall off the wagon completely. I needed to get back on t...

Kids Being Back to School Is Perfect for Your Weight Loss Efforts

Image
The kids went back to school here in Canada yesterday. With it being Monkey’s first day, I didn’t quite do everything that I wanted. We sort of had a morning of getting grocery shopping done and enjoying the time with just Peanut. This second day is the chance for us to get back on track. In fact, the kids being back to school is perfect for your weight loss journey. This is the time to focus and get back on track, and here’s why. You Get Your Routine Back Having the kids at home all the time is hard. The summer is full of “mom, can we do this?” or “dad, I’m bored.” It’s a time for treats, snacks and lots of meals out. At least, it always seems like that, doesn’t it? When the kids are at school, there’s a routine. You get up for breakfast, have a strict day of work with your lunches and snacks planned out, and then your dinner is organized to make sure the kids get a good night’s sleep. Okay, so it doesn’t always work out how you’d like but there is a gen...

100 Day Challenge Days 24 and 25: A Weekend of More Baking and Lack of Internet

Image
This weekend has been busy for me. Sometimes I have no idea where the time goes, and Sunday was definitely like that! I spent the whole day pretty much out of the house. When I was in, I was busy doing something! But that didn’t stop me from tracking my food! Not at all. After the 1lb weight loss on Saturday morning, I was more motivated to stay on track and make sure I continue with the 100 Day Challenge. And I did just that over the weekend. I’ve finished the weekend with 34 weekly pro points left. I’m happy with that as it is plenty for the next five days. And I fully plan on using them sparingly over the week. Today is when a few more will be eaten with the plan for dinner, but I know I can be good the rest of the week. My cover classes have finished this week, since I can’t do Thursday. With it being election day and as I’ve put off so many meetings lately, my Thursday quickly became packed with things to do. And I can’t put some of them off any longer. It’s a...

100 Day Challenge Day 21: Not the Healthiest Dinner Going but Definitely Enjoyed

Image
Don’t you find that there are some nights that you just can’t be bothered? I’ve found a lot of that since doing the 100 Day Challenge, or maybe I’m just being made more aware of my decisions. Wednesday nights are always hectic for us. Yesterday was more hectic than normal. We had a trip to the health centre with our daughter for some routine 30 month old tests. They took a lot longer than expected so by 4pm we were on our way back home trying to sort out the boxes I would need to take with me to work. Then all in the car by 5:30pm to get to work. I didn’t even realize until getting there that I’d hardly eaten all day. We did go out for lunch, but I made a very healthy choice of soup. Usually I would go for a jacket potato and salad but it was so cold out that I wanted the soup to warm me up! We also shared a dessert between me and my husband to have a treat but be good with it. After class, everything went out of the window. My husband is coming down with something (...

100 Day Challenge Day 20: Back to My Daily Pro Point Allowance

Image
Yesterday wasn’t a normal day for me on the 100 Day Challenge. It seems like none of them have recently, but yesterday was very different. My husband didn’t get home until after 11pm because he was seeing a friend from a former workplace. That meant I had to fend for myself when it came to dinner. It wasn’t that hard, really, and it meant I could make good choices for my pro points allowance. Usually if I know my husband is going to be out, I’d order a takeaway but I ended up making cheese on toast. That’s enough for me and I really enjoyed it. Warburton Thins are my favorite right now and are great for low pro pointed bread choices. The only issue I have is my daughter loves them too and goes through them like crazy! The decision did lead to me sticking to all my daily pro points allowance. I love when I have such a good day like that.  I didn’t get any activity points. I wanted to walk to my daughter’s nursery but the snow has come back! Yes it’s almost May and t...

100 Day Challenge Day 16: Life Loves to Throw Curveballs and Difficult Situations

Image
Friday started off as a great day on the 100 Day Challenge. It was all planned out and was going as expected. Then my husband got home! It’s not that he’s a saboteur when it comes to weight loss. In fact, he’s been one of my biggest supporters but there are times that he doesn’t think before he gets something. Last night it was a packet of crisps (a big one) and a portion of chip shop chips. I’m not really sure which one was worse. Both of them meant that I blew my dailies, weeklies and activity pro points allowances. Completely blew them and ended up in minus figures. But I still stepped onto the scales this morning. I was happy to find that I’d lost half a pound. I’ll definitely take that after last week. I’m guessing the good from the week before caught up to me and helped to balance it out. This week I promise to be good. Very good. It’s a new start for my weekly pro points and I will be getting to the gym tomorrow. That’s a top priority for me this...
